9 Years Ago......

Nine years ago today my first baby was born.  I decided to write about his birth story on this post because I have never recorded it before.  I was induced 10 days LATE.  My Dr. was very old fashioned (and old too) so he wanted my labor to start on its own.  10 days later when my labor didn't start they finally induced me.  It was the longest labor I have ever had.  24 hours of slow going labor.  I dilated to a 9 1/2 but couldn't get to a 10.  They decided to do a c-section.  While they were operating they noticed that my hips were too narrow (& hips lie) to ever have a vaginal birth.  That's right people, I am a size 2 on the INSIDE and people always say it is the inside that counts right? ;) Kidding.  Anyways after the c-section they gave me codeine and it made me absolutely CRAZY!  I was telling Aaron that I dropped Mason on accident (Mason was sleeping in the bassinet peacefully) & that I punched the nurse in the face, and telling the nurse that Mort (my neighbor) stole my boat.  Poor Aaron wondered if he would ever get his wife back.  So due to the medicated drug trip, I sadly don't remember a lot of Masons first hours.
What I do remember is how he stole my heart and the instant love I felt for him.  He was a really hard newborn who was really colicky.  It was a lot harder than I thought to be a mom but brought me more joy than I could have imagined.  When Mason was 4 months old, we moved to Hawaii for Aaron to finish his Bachelors degree.  When he was 5 month old he was hospitalized for Meningitis.  I am so grateful he was ok because I can't imagine my life without him.  I have a million fond memories of he and I playing on the beaches on Oahu and really cherish those memories.  We have so much fun together.
Mason is a wonderful boy.  He is handsome, outgoing, smart, hilarious and makes good decisions.  When I went to pick him up from school this past Friday I was surprised and thrilled that he would hold my hand still in the 3rd grade walking to the car.  He loves to cook, play outside, play practical jokes, wrestle with Aaron, talk, and bears his testimony often.  For about 4 of his birthdays(2-6), he would make us sing Happy Birthday to you, you live in a zoo, you look like a monkey and you smell like one too.  He has since grown out of it.  He is a wonderful big brother and I am so glad he is ours.  We love you Mason!  Happy 9th birthday!

What a sweet kid! I loved his testimony today. He has you and Aaron's sense of humor. I am sure you're proud of him!
